As makers of some of the world’s finest pens, Montblanc is a brand firmly anchored in the culture of writing. Through its Writer Edition limited editions, the company also pays tribute to some of the greatest icons in literary history. This year’s limited edition honours Carlo Collodi, creator of the world famous Pinocchio, the mischievous wooden puppet who, since his adventures were first published in 1883, has enchanted millions of readers around the world.
Collodi was born into modest circumstances in Florence in 1826; his real name was Carlo Lorenzini. Educated with financial help from his parent’s employers, he took the name of his mother’s Tuscan home village to avoid persecution when he published a satirical newspaper promoting Italy’s cultural and political independence from Austrian occupation.
Although Collodi developed several textbooks that promoted his theory of making education entertaining, they have long been out of print and it was his work as a translator of fairy tales that was to inspire his famous creation. Drawing on the Tuscan tradition of marionette making, the first episode of Pinnochio – Storia di un burattino (The Story of a Puppet) – was printed in 1881, and demand was to lead to another 35 chapters.

Signed from Reading in July on a four year contract, 25 year old Matt Mills was then confirmed as club captain for the 2011/12 season.
By August 5th, he had already been selected by BBC Radio Leicester’s Ian Stringer as the club’s key player for BBC Sport’s club-by-club guide to the 2011-12 Championship season: “Solid centre half and a Leicester-born defender who turned down Premier League Wolves to join Sven’s revolution.”
Since then, he has been outstanding and has played an integral part in City’s impressive run of clean sheets.
Interviewed by This Is Leicestershire, Mills commented: “Everybody can take pride in that throughout the whole squad,” he added. “I have a number of clean sheets in my head that I want to hit this season. If we can do that, I’ll be very happy. But I won’t reveal what number that is.”

The history of the brand with the winged B is inexorably intertwined with the story of aviation: the pioneers of flight were swift to pick up on the precision, reliability and efficiency of Breitling’s pocket and wrist chronographs, and the company subsequently developed the on-board chronographs for aircraft cockpits that were to ensure its worldwide fame. These instruments were indispensable to secure piloting and enjoyed great success with the airforces of the world, including the Royal Air Force which used them to equip its famous World War II propeller-driven fighter planes.
